The
Bombs across West End, Leicester.
I well remember the period when we were in the
shelters every night and the bomb landing on Latimer Street. My
mother and I were in the shelter in the playground of the Shaftesbury
Road Junior School that night but both my Father and Brother were
on ARP duty. The stirrup pump lived on the wall of our entry at
number 42 which was an Open All Hours type small
shop then. It is now a private house. Three houses were demolished
I think numbers 32, 30 and 28 as well as I can remember.
We were without gas and electric for a while and had to cook on
the living room fire!
