The
bombing of Conduit Street on 19th November 1940.
I lived in Conduit Street with my grandma
and grandad. We had to go under the stairs when the sirens went.
They were heading for London Road station and the bombs dropped
in our street and surrounding streets. When it was over, we came
from under the stairs and found our windows were blown right out
and we had a canary in a cage. The cage door was open and both the
cat and canary had vanished! We got on the doorstep and a few doors
down all the houses were flattened. There was one lady who had a
parrot, but we never did find either her or the bird.
